Snow Session

February 21, 2010

I love this! I loved that this family was up for the snow, I loved that they were up for climbing the building-sized snow-plowed drifts that were blocking our access to the location, I loved that they didn’t mind traipsing knee-deep through snow for an hour to get the shots we wanted. This session was proof-positive that winter sessions in hats and coats can be just as great as summer sessions in sundresses and bare feet.
Here is a quick preview – the gallery will be done soon!

Wide Eyed Wonder

February 1, 2010

What a great newborn session! This little guy was almost 5 weeks old – but born early, so his due date was only this week. This made for photos of a very small baby with VERY wide eyes and real eye contact. I love that! Throw in a couple of  wonderfully laid back parents and their happy little grinning pug dog, and they were just a joy to work with. Of course, I had to take a moment to get over my jealousy of the fact that they live RIGHT by Eastern Market!!! Just kidding, of course – but I could live vicariously in that neighborhood and be very very happy.  At any rate, here is a preview of our session – thanks for a great day!

Editorial Portfolio Work

January 11, 2010

As much as I LOVE my job, and love meeting new people, and photographing babies, children, and families, sometimes I get a bee in my bonnet to shoot just for ME.  So over the holiday season, I decided to do some work for my own editorial portfolio. I gathered my trusty models, called in some antique cars, and shot in my own style for two days.
Here are a few favorite images:

First of the Holiday Minis

October 11, 2009

So I have had to split my fall minis into multiple sessions – but actually, I am liking doing them two at a time. And yesterday I had the first two of the fall promo minisessions. Both repeat/awesome clients. Zero stress, awesome kids, awesome parents. The best!
If you are interested in booking a holiday minisession, email me at rdavid@rdavidphotography.com. $300 includes 30 minutes of shooting, all post-processing, and one full-res file with reproduction release. This is the perfect way to get a session and full res file for your holiday cards at a deeply discounted price.

After offering a preview of this session to some friends, more than one person commented that this little one looks like Brad and Angelina’s Shiloh.

And if she WAS being stalked by paparrazi, this little girl would be hamming up to the crowds, I have no doubt! She was an angel – smiley, happy, easy-going. An all-around easy job – and I have to brag for a minute and let everyone know that she actually belongs to our friends, John and Angi – not BRAD and Angi. ;-)
Enjoy the preview!

This would be the first session this season where I would say I actually felt like it was fall.  A little nip in the air, an absolutely ADORABLE baby girl in tights and a sweater dress… I actually started feeling a bit of excitement about the changing seasons (and I have a hard time saying goodbye to summer!) So, as I prepare to switch modes into “full-on fall 09″, I have a little preview of the session that kicked off the season – enjoy!!

I am always amazed at how small a world it really is. Even though I live in Virginia, and this shoot was in DC, within the first 10 minutes, we discovered that we have a mutual friend through swimming – and it was so much fun to compare “swim notes” as we shot the rest of the session. Really an easy, easy session – and the photos are looking great – enjoy your preview!

After lots of email planning, I was so happy to finally meet this family for our session. I am loving the images I have proofed so far, but with a family as gorgeous as this one, it’s hard to go wrong.

My friend Wendy is my go-to girl for all things cool. So leave it to her to send me the coolest family session ever!  This bunch was so much fun, I was sad for it to end! Happy travels to the boys heading back to California – hope you are all together again soon! Here is a preview of this super fun session.

Another session with great repeat clients – did I mention that watching kids grow is the best part of my job!? We met at the mill for this session, then drove to a hill for the final silhouettes. It was great seeing this beautiful family again, and the kids were so adorable!! Here is a preview of our session,  gallery will be coming soon, folks!
